Moka Pot Guide

Moka Pot Guide

WHY MOKA POT?

Moka pot is a cheap alternative to espresso. Although you
won’t get the crema from an espresso machine, the taste is
very similar. You can also use the espresso to make into
different drinks such as a latte. The moka pot is also very
popular amongst hikers and campers, as it is small and
compact as well as being gas friendly.

Preparation Time: 5 minutes
Servings: 1 cup (approximately 150ml)

WHAT YOU WILL NEED
Electric Kettle • 10 gr finely ground beans • Scale
Hot Water - 100 degrees Celsius • Cup

Steps
1. Prepare the Water
- Unscrew the bottom chamber of the Moka pot and fill it with hot water up to the valve level.
- Do not use cold water to avoid over-extracting and burning the coffee.
2. Add Coffee Grounds
- Place the filter basket into the bottom chamber.
- Carefully add 10g of finely ground coffee into the filter basket using a spoon.
3. Level the Coffee
- Gently level the coffee grounds with your finger or a knife.
- Do not tamp the coffee down to allow for proper water flow.
4. Assemble the Moka Pot
- Screw the top chamber onto the bottom chamber securely.
- Be cautious as the bottom chamber contains hot water. Use a towel or glove if needed.
5. Heat the Moka Pot
- Place the assembled Moka pot on a gas stove over medium heat.
- Ensure the flame does not exceed the bottom of the Moka pot to prevent burning the coffee.
6. Brew the Coffee
- As the water in the bottom chamber heats, pressure will push the coffee upwards into the top chamber.
- You can open the lid to check the brewing progress.
7. Finish Brewing
- When all the coffee has flowed into the top chamber, the brewing is complete.
- This should take about 2 to 2½ minutes.
8. Serve and Enjoy
- Pour the freshly brewed coffee into a cup.
- Enjoy your espresso-like Moka pot coffee!

Tips for the Perfect Brew
- Use freshly ground coffee beans for the best flavor.
- Adjust the grind size and coffee amount to your taste preference.
- Avoid overfilling the water or coffee grounds to prevent clogging and ensure smooth brewing.

Variations
- Add foamed milk for a latte or steamed milk for a cappuccino.
